UPDATE!!!

YOU 'RE VALUED!!!

Hi guys!!
Happy new month.
And yay!!!!!!!!!! It's also my birth month. Someone is getting younger. Oh!!!! ok that is gist for another day. Today's post is a featured one, written by my friend Abiodun. I have gotten so used to girls writing about the plight of the girl child that it has become a norm but reading this post and actually seeing how he passionately defends the girl child makes me really excited. It feels good to know that there are still guys who think we should be treated as equals. hope you enjoy!!

In recent times, the entire world has begun to open their eyes and ears to the plight of girls in our society. Some days ago, I read somewhere that the UN celebrated 20 years of adopting a convention (bill ) that eliminates discrimination against women. However despite all these, the legal means protecting our women (girl child) are mediocre ( sub standard to say the least).
I hope this gets out, but it should be clear to every one that without our daughters, our women, we have no future. A famous personality once said " Any society with a few number of girls ends up limited & aggressive because love decreases in such a society". Our girls are deprived of normal & basic facilities such as (equal right, education, lifestyle) in their families because of the perceived superiority of "Baby boy". Girls are assigned to chores that belittle them, are exposed to perverts & annoyingly they have to live their life to satisfy the families desire.
My mother once hammered it in me that EDUCATING A GIRL EQUALS EDUCATING TWO FAMILIES.

The moment has come to stand up or be silent. I  choose to speak up. Enough is enough. Our girls are future backbone's of the country & future home makers. Stopping the culture of violence & deprivation of rights is the first step to creating a stable & peaceful home which breeds a peaceful country. Lord help me, I refuse to keep mute when atrocities are being committed against girls all over the world and no one deems it fit to scream STOP.
In Nigeria an absurd number of young women were abducted and our leaders for a while brought on the political torchlight to shine in the darkness saying it's all a hoax. Recently some girls were released, so what happened to the "OUR ENEMIES FROM ANOTHER PARTY IS RESPONSIBLE?"
CHILD MARRIAGE is being allowed in some parts of the country & it seems no one cares to bat an eyelid again. Nigeria isn't the only country battling with violation of rights of women, countries like Yemen, India, South Africa, etc all face the same issh
It seems we don't need to be reminded that boys are children, but the world seems to forget that girls are children. I think we should all stand up to 1) Save the lives of our girls, II) Support education of our women, III) Campaign for the cessation of early marriage IV) Stand up for the empowering of girls to fully enjoy their protection & sexual right.
Finally, accepting the phrase "what a man can do, a woman can do better" might not be a bad thing after all. I wanna live in a world where my daughter has equal rights as my son, I wanna live in a society where future world shakers are not shackled by the society. That's why I say today, let the girl learn, let the girl live & lets spread the word of the amazing Malala Yousafzi.
"One Girl, One child, One Book, One pen can change the World."
Lets all speak up, and together our words can change the world.
                                                                                                                         - ABIODUN
